This excerpt is from the book entitled The Goat Parva Murders an English Murder Mystery book set in the countryside, starring two policemen who have been working together for a few years and get along really well. There’s lots of dialogue and banter with some humour thrown in amongst the murders and suspects.
“Thank you, Mrs Hills – we’ll be seeing you – oh – where’s Bingo? I haven’t heard or seen him since we arrived.”
“He’s in his doghouse taking a break from being near me – I scolded him this morning for finding another body and he seems to have taken it to heart.”
Barnes and Knowles bade their farewells and went back to Knowles’ Land Rover.
“So, Sergeant Barnes, what do you make of all that?”
“How would a dog steal a mobile phone that was charging and so was plugged into the wall?”
“A very clever dog, Sergeant, not only to remove it from the wall, but also to hide the phone, charger, and cord so that the owner doesn’t find it. I don’t think Bingo would do that – I think someone took them while she was on her walk.”
“A thief you mean or someone involved in the murders?”
“That’s difficult to answer at the moment, but why would someone involved in the murders steal her mobile phone – they’d have to know she was going to discover the body and then come back here to report it, so giving that someone more time at the crime scene.”
“You don’t think it’s the murderer returning to the scene of the crime who’s taking these items?”
“I don’t think so – I think what we have here is someone who’s going around knocking people on the head, but there almost seems a choice of people to kill each time. Danica BC said she thought she was being watched by three people and it seems like PC Davis wasn’t the only person watching whoever it was practicing pirouetting in the woods. I don’t think the murderer is killing stalkers – there’s another motive but I have no idea what yet.”
