This excerpt is from the book entitled The Goat Parva Murders an English Murder Mystery book set in the countryside, starring two policemen who have been working together for a few years and get along really well. There’s lots of dialogue and banter with some humour thrown in amongst the murders and suspects.
“It’s 1:30 pm on September 24th ,” replied Barnes as nonchalantly as he could.
“September the 24th what a good day that is,” said Knowles, “autumn is just beginning.”
They were escorted off the premises by the butler, whose name they never did learn. When they reached the sanctuary and familiarity of Knowles’ Land Rover they both breathed a sigh of relief and anxiously replayed the recording, which came across loud and clear.
“What was Antonia Avon drinking do you think?”, grinned Knowles.
“A truth serum and her candour really got up her husband’s nose.”
“I wonder why she goes walking in the woods – she’d bump into the trees, she almost missed that chair you know when she came in the second time.”
“Yes, I saw the look of relief on her face when her backside hit the seat and not the floor.”
“More importantly why does her husband go into the woods and what does he do there that he wants to keep hidden from public knowledge?”
“I bet Carol Herald knows as she seems to be where all the action is.”
Knowles thought about Barnes’ statement.
“Right – good point – when we’ve been to Davis’ home we should split – you go and see Carol and I will visit Mr Greggs.”
