Goat Parva Murders – 27

This excerpt is from the book entitled The Goat Parva Murders an English Murder Mystery book set in the countryside, starring two policemen who have been working together for a few years and get along really well. There’s lots of dialogue and banter with some humour thrown in amongst the murders and suspects.

Mrs Hills opened the door and invited Knowles and Barnes into her home. They walked through to the lounge and sat down while Mrs Hills leaned on the fireplace.

Knowles began: “So Adelaide, what happened – what did your trusty beast retrieve this time?”

“A hat and a pair of binoculars – that’s all this time.”

“That’s all – oh, so no shoes or belts then?”

“I checked the body this time and took an inventory and everything appeared to be there.”

“Someone, or your dog of course, has rifled the victim’s rucksack though and, we believe, taken the blanket the victim was laying on.”

“How do you know that, Inspector?”

“It’s because of the fibres on the victim’s clothing at the front. Also, he had to be laying on something  cuz there’s no evidence of dirt or leaves on his clothes and yet you’d expect there to be some evidence of nature on his front if he’d been lying down in the woods, wouldn’t you?”

“Bingo didn’t bring back a blanket and I am almost 100% sure that the victim was laying on something when I saw him – I think it was a shower curtain rather than a blanket – it had those holes down one side where the rings go so you can hang it up.”
