Places not on Google Maps – Wisper

Extracts from the following book – Places not on Google Maps

In the Shetland Islands, the small island of Wisper is in the lee of the prevailing winds to the east of Whalsay Island. The main occupation of the island is fishing. The Renibister Golf Course claims to be the most easterly golf course in the UK – it is almost certainly the only course with a 2,000-year old broch as one of the hazards on the 7th fairway. Lighthouse House on the waterfront is a Hanseatic böd used by German merchants, dating from 1642. The interior includes replica furniture and wall coverings of the period. Interpretive panels tell the history of the trade between The Shetlands and the north German trade association.
