Places not on Google Maps – Caiman Cayman

Extracts from the following book – Places not on Google Maps

This is the fourth and least known of The Cayman Islands, largely because it’s not a tax haven. It is a dangerous island, because the inland waterways are inhabited by a very fierce breed of caiman, who have been known to try and overturn boats in their desire to eat the contents. These caimans were imported to keep down the local rat population, a job they exceeded themselves at. The caimans can grow to be sixteen feet long and so are able to block some of the narrower canals on the island completely, causing occasional flooding problems in the wet season. When the animals have been fed, they slip back into the water. This is the first known instance of an animal trying to cause environmental damage for personal gain.
